VICTOR L. MAURER age 89

Of New Bremen, died on Thursday, December 11, 2014 at 8:15 P.M. at Elmwood of New Bremen. He was born on April 28, 1925 near Kettlersville, OH, to the late Walter and Mary (Roettger) Maurer. On December 20, 1947 he married Virginia Boyer who died on March 25, 2007. Survivors include their children Jack (Adrianne) Maurer of Ft. Wayne, IN, Jane (Dave) Wyan of Rio Vista, CA, Pam (Paul) Simon of Anna, Lori (Mark) Winner, Kim (Tim) Hemmelgarn both of New Bremen, grandchildren include Jason (Emily) Maurer, Kristen (Ronn) Bouchard, Lauren Maurer, Morgan Maurer, Josh (Rebecca) Kebbel-Wyen, Victor "Kevin" (Rachael Flaatal) Wyen, Matthew (Katie) Maurer, Suzie Simon, Sam Simon, Elizabeth (Jim) Gledhill, Brett (Elizabeth Gutwein) Winner, Anderson Reed, Kaelen Reed, Joel Hemmelgarn, Austin Hemmelgarn, great-grandchildren Alek Bouchard, Cole Bouchard, Brantley Simon, and Sylvia Liu Akayla Mauer, sisters Betty Kaufman of Bellefontaine, and Patricia Korn of Janesville, MN. Along with his wife, he was preceded in death by two sisters and seven brothers.

Victor was an active member of St. Paul United Church of Christ in New Bremen, where he was in the church choir for many years, and served as past church council president. He served his country in WWII in the Pacific Theatre in the United States Marines as a Tail Gunner in B25 Bombers. He was a member of the New Bremen American Legion Post 241, the first New Bremen Tree Commission, and the New Bremen Historic Association where he served as the organization's first president. He enjoyed golfing, gardening, dancing, and was an active swimmer. He retired in 1987 from the former Provico where he had been a credit manager for many years. He had once owned the former GMB Feed Company of New Bremen, and also worked at the former New Bremen Supply Company. Vic loved his family, and enjoyed the time that he was able to spend with them.

Memorial Services will be held on Saturday, January 10, 2015 at 11:00 A.M. at the St. Paul United Church of Christ in New Bremen. Calling Hours will be held on Friday, January 9, 2015 from 3:00 until 6:00 PM at the Gilberg-Hartwig Funeral Home, and one hour prior to the services Saturday at the church.
