HELEN L. WISSMAN age 88
of New Bremen, died on Sunday, November 30, 2014 at 8:08 A.M. at the Elmwood Assisted Living of New Bremen. She was born on October 1, 1926 in Mercer Co. near New Bremen. She was the daughter of Benjamin and Evelyn (Rump) Brockman. On May 14, 1949 she married Richard G. Wissman who preceded her in death on September 16, 1982. Survivors include her daughter and son in law Kay and David Wren of Lima, her daughter in law Susan Wissman of New Bremen, nine grandchildren, nine great grandchildren, her sister and brother in law Vernita and Mack Wellman, of New Bremen and special niece Joyce Wente of Minster along with several other nieces and nephews. Preceding her in death was her son Robert Wissman, grandson Cory Wissman, brothers Earl, Paul and Warren Brockman and her sister Gladys Gruebmeyer.
Helen was a member of the St. Paul United Church of Christ in New Bremen where she had taught Sunday School and was a member of the church's Busy 12. She was also a member of the New Bremen Senior Citizens and the American Legion Post 241 Auxiliary where she had held offices in each of the organizations. She was a former 4H advisor and Cub Scout Leader. She enjoyed traveling with her sister in law Mary Stewart, playing cards and putting puzzles together and baking for her family and friends. Helen had worked at Crown Equipment Corp. in New Bremen for 10 years and for many years after had worked in the deli dept. at Howell's IGA in New Bremen. She was a seamstress, altering clothing for many people over the years.
Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, December 6, 2014 at 10:30 A.M. at the Gilberg-Hartwig Funeral Home in New Bremen with Rev. Becky Erb Strang officiating. Burial will follow at the German Protestant Cemetery in New Bremen. Calling hours will be held on Friday, December 5, 2014 from 3:00 until 6:00 PM at the funeral home. Memorial contributions can be made to New Bremen Fire Foundation, the American Legion Post 241 Auxiliary or to the church memorial fund.
