of New Bremen, OH, died on Saturday, December 27, 2014 at the Arthur G. James Cancer Center, Columbus, OH. after a brief illness. He was born on June 1, 1954 in Charleston, SC. He was the son of Duane T. and Alice R. (Gilberg) Hartwig, both who survive in New Bremen, On February 25, 1995 he married Yvonne Grillot who survives in New Bremen. Also surviving are his children, Jasmine (Larry Taylor) Cotrell of Piqua, Jeremy (Lisa) Hartwig of Covington, grandchildren Chloe, Arianna, Gabrielle, Ava, Isaac and Levi. Also surviving are his siblings, Dean (Kate) Hartwig, Steve (Diana) Hartwig, Barb (Mike) Holdren, all of New Bremen and Jane (Pete) Gariety of Jackson Center.

Doug was a member of the former Zion United Church of Christ in New Bremen. He was a former member of the New Bremen/German Twp. Fire Dept. He was a mill operator at the Celina Plant of Crown Equipment Corp. of New Bremen where he had worked for 32 years. He had a love of the outdoors, taking trips to Fletcher's Pond in Michigan to hunt for mushrooms, and spending time at any lake fishing or hunting. He enjoyed bowling and playing softball. He truly loved spending time with his family, especially his children and grandchildren.

Funeral services will be on Thursday, January 1, 2015 at 4:00 P.M. at the Gilberg-Hartwig Funeral Home with Rev. Becky Erb Strang officiating. Burial will be at a later date in the German Protestant Cemetery, New Bremen. The family will receive friends on Thursday from 1:00 P.M. until the time of the services at the funeral home. Memorial contributions in Doug's memory may be made to the New Bremen Fire Foundation or New Bremen Emergency Squad. Condolences to the Hartwig family may be left at
