Tribute & Message From The Family

Irene L. (Berg) Jarvis, age 91, passed away on the evening of November 2, 2016. She had been a resident of Elmwood Assisted Living in New Bremen for 10 months. She was the daughter of the late Egon and Clara (Knatz) Berg Sr. She was married to James A. Jarvis for 34 years, before he passed away on October 5, 1985. She is survived by her only child David James Jarvis and his wife Kabeth, of New Bremen. She also is survived by her two grandchildren, Sara Beth Bailin and her husband Bryan of Cincinnati, Ohio, and her granddaughter Claire Elise Jarvis of New Bremen. She had two brothers, Egon Berg Jr. and Eldon Berg, both deceased, and two sisters, Betty (Ferd) Link of Wapakoneta, Ohio, and Joan C. (Russell) Clay of Naples, Florida, also deceased.

She graduated from Blume High School in Wapakoneta, Ohio in 1943. After graduating from high school, she then started to work at the City Loan and Savings in Lima, Ohio for 15 years. She then moved to New Bremen with her husband James and worked for the New Bremen School System for 23 years as treasurer, before retiring in 1991. After retiring she volunteered at the New Bremen High School and Elementary School libraries. She also volunteered at the Joint Township District Memorial Hospital in the medical records department for many years. She also became a board member of the Auglaize County Educational Service Center for 16 years and retired from that at the end of 2007. She belonged to St. Paul United Church of Christ in New Bremen, and was on the Stewardship board where she served as treasurer. She also volunteered on the Funeral Luncheon committee, and was a member of the Busy 12. She will be remembered for being a loving mother, and grandmother to her two granddaughters. She enjoyed watching them when they were very young, and also enjoyed picking them up each day promptly from elementary school. She will be remembered for doing whatever she could for her son, his wife, and her grandchildren. She was wonderful baker of cookies and delicious pies, in addition to her expertise in the financial field. She loved taking walks, and enjoyed being outside doing whatever she could with mowing her yard and working in her garden.

Condolence & Memory Journal

Dear David & Family,

So sorry to hear of your Mother's passing. Such a great neighbor she was. She would always take the time to walk over and visit with Mark & I if we were outside. Always full of complements & encouragement. She was always so happy for our accomplishments. Always had a smile on her face.

Your Mother was a great neighbor to us for nearly 15 years. May she now.... Rest In Peace.

I feel really bad for not seeing this in time to go to the viewing. I'll always remember Irene. She was close to my mom, and after she passed I had many conversations with Irene. She always talked about her grandkids. I stopped by to visit her when I found out she was in the nursing home, but sadly she no longer knew who I was. RIP to a special lady.

Irene may you rest in Heaven with your "Jim". I cherish the many years of friendship we had, you were a true friend and a one of a kind woman. They broke the mold when they made you and your life made a difference to all those who knew you. You will be missed, but I know you are free from pain and suffering and finally at rest. I hope you know how much I loved you!
